Dear Parents,
Hello! I hope you were able to enjoy some spring weather over the weekend before winter returns this week… ugh!
This week our question of the week is: How do we know when the seasons are changing? Our main story is called My Autumn Book. The skills we will be working on are the long i and long o sounds, the suffixes -ly and -ful, fiction, theme, prepositions, adverbs and punctuation marks. In math, we started Topic 12- Measure Lengths. We will learn about indirect measurement and using units to measure lengths.
At the end of last month, I sent home a reading log for your child to keep track of their reading time at home. I am attaching another one in case you misplaced it or forgot about it. There isn’t much time left in the challenge, but some time is better than no time!
The students really enjoyed watching The BFG last week. I like when we can enjoy reading a book and they have to use their imaginations and then it’s put into action with the movie. It’s also interesting to compare the similarities and differences. I couldn’t decide between The Trumpet of the Swan and Charlotte’s Web for our next book. Both are written by E.B. White and excellent books. I let the kids vote and it was close, but Charlotte’s Web won. This will be our last chapter book I read to them for this school year! We will watch the movie when we’re done reading it.
The 1st and 3rd graders were excited to clean up around our school on Earth Day. They took their job very seriously and earned their dirt cup as a reward. Thank you to the parents that sent in supplies! This Friday we will be making cards for two veterans that we know of that were chosen to go on the U.P. Honor Flight in May. Honoring our veterans in any way is always so important!
Have a GREAT week!
